TAURON with additional PLN 5 billion for power grid transformation
TAURON has signed an agreement and an amendment to the agreement with Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) for loans under the National Energy Programme (KPO). Thanks to these agreements, Poland's largest electricity distributor will gain significant investment funds. TAURON will receive an additional nearly PLN 5 billion for the development and adaptation of its power grid. PLN 310 million for infrastructure digitization.
"Thanks to our "Loan for Digitization" program, we are truly supporting digital transformation – the continuity of key services for citizens and the resilience of the economy to new threats are at stake. This support is consistent with a broader strategy for developing the national cybersecurity system. Today's agreement is an example of how EU funds, the cooperation of public institutions, and the involvement of Polish businesses can work together to build a modern and secure digital economy. I am convinced that this is only the beginning of projects that will strengthen the foundations of digitization in Poland," emphasized Krzysztof Gawkowski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs.
"Funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO) is a unique opportunity for the Polish energy sector. An opportunity that the TAURON Group will capitalize on on a massive scale. Our plans include the construction and modernization of several thousand power substations, the installation of tens of thousands of kilometers of new cable lines, and over 2 million smart meters for our customers. The funds we spend through the KPO are a chance to accelerate the energy transformation, which will directly translate into lower energy prices. The key is to use them effectively and responsibly – ensuring that every złoty contributes to modern grids and supports the development of additional renewable and low-emission energy sources. This will allow us to build a crisis-resistant and competitive power system on a European scale," says Grzegorz Lot, CEO of the TAURON Group.
Loans from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO) will be allocated to TAURON thanks to a new digitalization agreement and an amendment to the infrastructure investment agreement signed by the Group with Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego.
The signed digitalization financing agreement stipulates that TAURON will allocate PLN 310 million to modernize and digitalize energy infrastructure. This will contribute to optimizing energy consumption and transmission efficiency through the use of advanced monitoring systems and predictive data analysis. The investment will also enhance the security of energy infrastructure.
TAURON also plans to use KPO funds to build and modernize, among other things:
- 1,000 km of high-voltage (HV) lines;
- 4,800 km of medium-voltage (MV) lines;
- 21,000 km of low-voltage (LV) lines;
- 140 HV/MV transformers;
- 3,000 MV/LV transformers;
- 3,000 MV/LV substations;
- 50 HV/MV substations (Main Power Supply Points);
- 2.3 million remotely read smart meters.
The funds raised through the amendment to the power grid transformation agreement will be used to finance TAURON Dystrybucja's expenditures on developing and adapting the power grid to the needs of the energy transition and climate change. These investments will improve the flexibility of the grid and ensure the reliability of energy supplies.
