TAURON implements blockchain

Over 700,000 households and businesses are already being served by TAURON using modern blockchain technology.

The Group estimates that by the end of this year, more than one million customers will be using this solution. This will improve the security of digital services and eliminate nearly 150 tons of paper printouts this year alone. TAURON is a pioneer in implementing blockchain on this scale in the Polish energy sector.

Blockchain is a method of storing information electronically in a way that guarantees the immutability of historical data. It is widely used in sectors such as banking and telecommunications.

This technology collects data in a decentralized and distributed form, where all events are recorded as blocks built using cryptographic functions. Each block includes a reference to the previous one, creating a chain of blocks – the so-called blockchain. 

Thanks to its transparency, cryptography, and other key properties, blockchain technology ensures the immutability of documents delivered to customers. The secure storage of various types of information and documents is guaranteed by the characteristics of a Durable Data Carrier, which makes it formally acceptable for communication with customers in compliance with EU regulations and the highest security standards.
