Stoen Operator focuses on cable networks
Undergrounding power networks is not just a matter of aesthetics or resistance to weather conditions. It is a complex technological and administrative process which, in the case of Stoen Operator, also has a systemic and strategic dimension.
Operating exclusively in Warsaw, Stoen is required to carry out all investments using cable technology—local spatial development plans do not allow the construction of new overhead lines. This not only means higher costs and the need to coordinate with multiple underground infrastructure owners, but also requires greater precision in design and planning.
Compared to other distribution system operators (DSOs), Stoen Operator stands out significantly: by the end of 2024, as much as 97% of its medium-voltage (MV) network was underground (up from 96% in 2022). This is the highest share among the five largest DSOs in Poland at the same time, the underground rates were: 41% for Tauron Dystrybucja (39% in 2022), 31% for Enea Operator (28%), 26% for PGE Dystrybucja (22%), and 24% for Energa Operator (21%).
In 2024 alone, Stoen Operator built nearly 300 km of new cable networks and moved over 20 km of existing overhead lines underground. The company maintains this pace of investment and anticipates further growth in the coming years.
