PGE Group to launch the LTE450 network for mid-2025

PGE launching first transmitters for internal operations in 2025 — phase I completion planned for late 2026

PGE is set to start the construction of its LTE450 network in 2025, with the activation of the first transmitters intended for the Group’s internal operational needs. The completion of Phase I, which will cover the area served by PGE Dystrybucja, is scheduled for the end of 2026. The project is partially financed by the National Recovery Plan (KPO), and a key milestone will be the symbolic “ribbon cutting” and the launch of LTE data transmission and IoT services (LTE-M) in mid-2025.

In the first stage of the network rollout, the plan includes building around 510 radio access network (RAN) base stations and several dozen transmission nodes, resulting in nearly 600 locations in total. Almost half of the sites are PGE’s own installations, while the rest are secured through lease agreements with tower operators and telecommunications infrastructure owners.

The network activation will take place in phases: transmitters will first go live on modernized PGE-owned infrastructure, followed by those on leased sites. All active equipment and power systems will remain the property of PGE, ensuring full control over the network’s reliability and security.

Ultimately, the LTE450 network will support “several million” SIM cards, used by devices such as smart energy meters, telemechanics components, and dispatch terminals. LTE-M services will enable functions such as remote meter reading and the operation of SCADA systems monitoring the distribution grid.

In the longer term, PGE plans to expand the network's reach beyond its own distribution area, in cooperation with other energy groups. As a result, LTE450 could evolve into a nationwide infrastructure supporting not only the energy sector but also emergency and public safety services.
