PGE Energetyka Kolejowa and PKP PLK have agreements for over 2 billion PLN in investments by 2029

PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP PLK) and PGE Energetyka Kolejowa have signed two agreements on cooperation in railway energy infrastructure, the companies announced. Under separate contracts concluded in accordance with the provisions of the new agreement, nearly 90 traction substations and section cabins will be built or modernized by the end of 2029, with a total investment value exceeding 2 billion PLN.

The signed documents define the terms of cooperation between the parties regarding investments and ensuring the proper functioning of the energy system on railway lines. They clarify the principles for the construction, modernization, and certification of traction network power supply systems. According to a statement, under separate contracts concluded in accordance with the provisions of the new Agreement on the Principles for Connecting the Traction Network to the Distribution Network of PGE Energetyka Kolejowa S.A., nearly 90 traction substations and section cabins will be built or modernized by the end of 2029, with a total investment value exceeding 2 billion PLN.

"Under the new provisions, PGE Energetyka Kolejowa will take full responsibility for the entire traction network power supply system, including the construction of all new traction substations and section cabins. This will allow for early planning and execution of investments, which is crucial for the efficient allocation of investment funds, including those from the National Recovery Plan (KPO)," said Mateusz Sławiński, President of PGE Energetyka Kolejowa, as quoted in the statement.

The agreement also maintains the existing principle related to the operation of the 3 kV DC traction power supply system, ensuring that each network segment is simultaneously powered by neighboring substations. This approach guarantees a high-quality and reliable power supply.
