PGE Dystrybucja Moves Forward with Smart Meter Rollout – RFI Issued for 1.7 Million Remote Reading Meters

PGE Dystrybucja has issued a Request for Information (RFI) regarding the supply of smart meters with remote reading capability for low-voltage (LV) end users. The planned deliveries are scheduled for 2026–2028 and cover approximately 1,700,000 units, including around 685,000 single-phase meters and 1,015,000 three-phase meters.

This marks another significant milestone in the company's ongoing digital transformation strategy aimed at fully modernizing its metering infrastructure. As part of its rollout, PGE Dystrybucja is deploying next-generation smart meters equipped not only with remote reading features but also with advanced communication technologies, including LTE450 – a dedicated frequency band for critical communication within the energy sector.

"The installation of smart meters featuring LTE450 communication is a key element of PGE Dystrybucja’s energy and digital transformation. This solution ensures secure, reliable, and fast data exchange, enhancing the overall efficiency of the electricity distribution system," the company states.

This initiative is aligned with national and European guidelines for smart grids and aims to strengthen the cybersecurity and interoperability of Poland’s energy infrastructure. The company continues to install meters that meet the latest technical and regulatory standards, ensuring compliance with the evolving requirements of the energy market.

The RFI is addressed to potential suppliers capable of delivering metering devices that meet the technical specifications and regulatory criteria. The collected responses will inform a formal procurement process to be launched at a later stage.
