ORLEN Secures PLN 900 Million for Power Grid Expansion
ORLEN has signed a second agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to finance its strategic investment program aimed at developing a modern power distribution network.
The funding, totaling nearly PLN 1 billion, will be allocated to:
✅ Expanding renewable energy integration, increasing grid capacity for connecting new renewable sources.
✅ Enhancing electric vehicle infrastructure, supporting the development of 1,000 new EV charging points.
This investment aligns with ORLEN’s long-term strategy to modernize Poland’s energy system, accelerate the green transition, and improve the country's energy security and efficiency.
Investments of Energa Operator from the ORLEN Group, funded with support from the EIB, will begin next year. By the end of 2026, thanks to the funds secured through the newly signed agreement, approximately 830 km of power lines and 320 km of new connections will be constructed, enabling access to nearly 25,000 new customers. Planned investments also include energy storage and the installation of 170,000 remote-reading meters, enabling fast and direct verification of energy consumption.
"The energy transformation of the ORLEN Group is largely dependent on effective investment financing. Collaboration with the European Investment Bank allows us to secure the necessary funds on terms more favorable than those offered by commercial banks. Optimizing the cost of implementing ORLEN Group's development programs is one of our priorities, and successful execution contributes to increasing the company’s value for shareholders," said Magdalena Bartoś, Vice President for Finance at ORLEN.
The new investments will also strengthen the ORLEN Group's potential in green energy. The program includes the powering of 1,000 new electric vehicle charging stations and expanding the connection capacity for renewable energy sources (RES), which will allow for the integration of new zero-emission energy sources with a total capacity of 1.4 GW. This will provide access to clean energy for an additional 900,000 households.
Energa Operator, part of the ORLEN Group, provides electricity to 3.4 million customers and is a leading energy distributor in northern and central Poland, with a network spanning approximately 200,000 kilometers. The annual value of electricity distributed is over 22.5 TWh.
