E.ON with a grant for the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure

The European Union has awarded a grant for the development of charging infrastructure for passenger cars and electric trucks. As part of the DRIVE-E project, 1,400 new public charging points will be established across 13 European countries. New stations will also be introduced in Poland.

The European Union has allocated €45 million for the development of charging infrastructure. As part of the project led by a consortium headed by the E.ON Group, 1,400 new public charging points will be established across 13 European countries, including Poland. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. As part of this investment, 430 charging points with a capacity of at least 350 kW will be built specifically for heavy-duty electric transport. The funding comes from the EU’s CEF 2 AFIF2 program, which supports the development of alternative fuel infrastructure.

Investments in Poland

In Poland, the project includes the installation of a total of 40 charging points. Among them, 24 will be dedicated to passenger vehicles and will be built across six locations, offering capacities starting from 150 kW. Additionally, charging infrastructure for heavy transport will be established in eight locations, with at least 16 charging points offering a power output of 350 kW or higher. The new stations will be strategically located near major roads in the TEN-T network to facilitate access to electric vehicle charging.

The implementation of the project in Poland is overseen by EDRI Poland, which will act as the operator of E.ON Group’s public charging stations. The first stations are expected to begin operation in Warsaw between the first and second quarters of 2025.

Additional charging points will be deployed gradually as grid connection processes, managed by distribution system operators, are completed. These processes take significantly longer in Poland compared to other European countries.
