The Great Modernization Program of Polish Energy Networks
Energa-Operator has secured over PLN 7.5 billion from the National Recovery Plan for the largest modernization and digitization program of the power grid in the company's history, covering northern and central Poland. The modernization and construction of 21,000 kilometers of grid infrastructure will enhance the country's energy security and ultimately contribute to lower energy prices for end consumers.
This will be made possible, among other things, by the planned connection of 9 GW of renewable energy sources with low variable generation costs and energy storage systems. The program will also enable 200,000 new prosumers to connect to the grid. The total value of the program by 2035 is estimated at PLN 40 billion.
The presidents of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, ORLEN S.A., Grupa Energa, and Energa-Operator S.A. have signed a loan agreement financed by the National Recovery Plan (KPO). The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Climate and Environment.
Energa-Operator’s investment plan for 2025-2035, valued at PLN 40 billion, includes the implementation of 720,000 investment projects, including:
✅ Construction of over 11,000 km of power lines,
✅ Modernization of nearly 10,000 km of power lines, including 7,000 km of underground cables,
✅ Connection of approximately 350,000 new electricity consumers,
✅ Connection of renewable energy sources, including prosumers, with a total capacity of over 9 GW,
✅ Connection of more than 1,600 electric vehicle charging stations,
✅ Installation of approximately 1,000 medium-to-low voltage transformers.
"Energa-Operator has been the "greenest" distribution system operator for years. Today, around 60% of the electricity used in our operating area comes from renewable energy sources, making us one of the European leaders in energy transition among distributors. Thanks to modern technical solutions, funded in part by the National Recovery Plan, we will provide investors, businesses, and residents with greater comfort, energy supply reliability, and support for the development of logistics centers, data processing centers, infrastructure for high-speed rail, and high-power electric vehicle charging stations – said Robert Świerzyński, President of Energa-Operator S.A.
