Stoen Invests in Grid Modernization

One key priority of the energy transition is the development of modern power grids. Continuous grid modernization and expansion are essential for distribution system operators (DSOs) to ensure a reliable and secure energy supply.

Stoen Operator, which supplies electricity to over one million customers in Warsaw, allocated a record 650 million PLN for grid investments in 2024. In recent years, the company has also secured more than 186 million PLN in grants. This year, Stoen plans to increase its internal investment budget further and aims to obtain additional funding of nearly 100 million PLN to support its infrastructure expansion.

Warsaw's Growing Energy Demand Drives Record Investments

Stoen Operator faces the challenge of a rapidly increasing power demand in Warsaw. While the city's electricity needs previously grew by 1–2% annually, this growth may quintuple by 2030. Data centers alone already require nearly 500 MW of power—a figure expected to double within the next decade.

To address these demands, the company is investing in smart grids, digitalization projects, and initiatives that enhance network observability and customer engagement in efficient energy use.

Stoen Operator Sets Record Investment Plans for 2025

Stoen Operator is gearing up for another year of record-breaking investments in 2025, surpassing last year’s highest-ever budget. The company is prioritizing the acquisition of new grants to support the modernization of its power grid and meet the evolving needs of its diverse customer base.

"Modernizing the power grid must focus on addressing the needs of a diverse customer base," says Łukasz Sosnowski, Manager for External Funding Acquisition and R&D Project Implementation at Stoen Operator.
