PGE Energia Odnawialna announces a tender for the construction of an electricity storage facility
PGE Energia Odnawialna has announced a tender for the construction of a modern battery energy storage facility with a capacity of up to 400 MW and storage capacity of 800 MWh. The investment will be located next to the Dolna Odra Power Plant in Nowe Czarnowo, near Gryfino, and represents another strategic step in the development of energy storage infrastructure in Poland.
The project involves the design and construction of a battery energy storage facility together with the necessary technical infrastructure. The tender procedure was announced on 1 August 2025 and is being conducted as an open tender in accordance with the Public Procurement Law. Applications may be submitted until 16 September 2025.
“The launch of the tender procedure for the construction of a new large-scale battery energy storage facility in Gryfino, with a capacity of 400 MW and storage capacity of 800 MWh, is another important step in implementing our strategy in the energy storage segment. This strategy aims to increase the total energy storage capacity within the PGE Group to 18.5 GWh by 2035. We are the leader in this area – we currently hold 90% of the installed capacity in pumped-storage power plant technology in Poland. In March this year, we signed a contract for the construction of the largest large-scale battery energy storage facility in Poland, with a capacity of 981 MWh. Today, we are announcing a tender for the execution of the second investment of this kind. It will be commissioned in 2029 and – just like the facility in Żarnowiec – has already secured a 17-year capacity market contract,” said Dariusz Marzec, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.
