Billions in Grid Investments to Support New Power Plants

Energy operators are planning multi-billion investments to expand and modernize power grids, enabling the integration of new power plants. Key projects will focus on Pomerania, where the largest offshore wind farms and Poland’s first nuclear reactors will be built.

Polish Power Grids (PSE) are currently analyzing the feasibility of an "energy highway" — a dedicated transmission line designed to transport electricity from offshore wind farms to southern Poland and beyond. The initiative also seeks to engage Czech partners, potentially opening new opportunities for cross-border energy cooperation. The rapid expansion of renewable energy, along with plans to build gas and nuclear power plants, requires major investments in grid modernization and expansion.

Energa (Orlen Group) to Invest PLN 40 Billion Over the Next Decade

✅ Secured PLN 7.66 billion in loans from the National Recovery Plan (KPO) for grid investments.
✅ Plans to modernize and construct 21,000 km of power lines.
✅ Aims to connect 9 GW of renewable energy sources (RES) along with energy storage systems.
✅ Will enable the connection of 200,000 additional home photovoltaic installations.

Tauron Secures PLN 11 Billion in KPO Loans

✅ Follows similar funding secured by Energa in December 2024.

Industry-Wide Investments in Power Grids

✅ Top energy operators will invest a total of PLN 72.6 billion (2023-2028) in distribution networks.
✅ Polish Power Grids (PSE), the high-voltage network operator, plans to invest PLN 64 billion (2025-2034).

Smart Grid & AI Integration

✅ Investment goes beyond new power lines, incorporating advanced technology and AI.
✅ Currently, 86% of Energa customers have smart meters enabling remote data readings.
✅ By the end of 2025, 100% of customers will be equipped with smart meters, ensuring a fully digitalized grid.

These initiatives mark a crucial step in Poland’s energy transformation, ensuring a modern, efficient, and sustainable electricity network.
